Opening of the New Law Year 2014-2015

Wednesday, 17th September 2014 signaled the opening of the New Law Year for the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.

In Montserrat, the proceedings commenced with an Ecumenical Service at the St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Lookout at 8:00am. Prior to the formal Opening, His Lordship the Honourable Justice Albert Redhead inspected a Guard of Honour at the Government Headquarters car park situated behind the Ministry of Education Building.

The opening ceremony was marked with the customary Ceremonial Opening, in the form of a Special Sitting of the Court at 10:00am, at the High Court of Justice at Government Headquarters in Brades. His Lordship, Justice Redhead presided over the ceremony, which began with the live streaming of the address by the Honourable Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Dame Janice M. Pereira DBE from the High Court in Anguilla, where the Court of Appeal will be holding its first scheduled Sitting for the New Law Year. The address captioned “Fulfilling our Strategic Vision in Challenging times” was broadcasted live, via simulcast to the Courts in the other jurisdictions.

The ensuing remarks were made by The Honourable Attorney General, Keith Friday, Mr. Kenneth Allen Q.C of the Inner Bar, Mr. Hogarth Sergeant of the Utter Bar, Miss Chivone Gerald, President of the Montserrat Bar Association and His Lordship Justice Redhead.

Succeeding the remarks and the closing of the Court by His Lordship Justice Redhead, there was a Reception at the Police Headquarters in Brades.
